Common questions
Is cryptocurrency legal in India?
Buying, holding and selling crypto is legal in India, but it is not legal tender. Crypto (a "Virtual Digital Asset") is regulated for taxation, not endorsed as a payment currency. Always use a registered Indian exchange that follows KYC rules.
How is crypto taxed in India?
Profits from transferring crypto are taxed at a flat 30% (plus applicable surcharge and cess), with no deduction except the cost of acquisition. A 1% TDS also applies on transfers above the threshold. Losses cannot be set off against other income.
Why do crypto markets trade 24/7?
Unlike stock exchanges, crypto trades on global, always-on networks with no opening or closing bell. Prices move every second of every day, including weekends and holidays.
What does market capitalisation mean?
Market cap is the coin's price multiplied by the number of coins in circulation. It is used to rank coins by size — a higher market cap generally means a larger, more established asset.
Disclaimer: Cryptocurrencies are highly volatile and largely unregulated. Prices shown are indicative and may be delayed. In India, crypto gains are taxed at 30% plus 1% TDS.
